If you are on a budget, like I am, I’m sure you’ve been in the situation where finding a little extra money in the budget would be nice. Sometimes it’s not even just nice, it’s a necessity! There is a laundry list of things I could use some extra money on. Christmas, back to school, birthday gifts, new sneakers, groceries during a month when the budget is really tight, treating myself to something (shock!) and on and on the list could go. I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite apps for making extra money that I use when things are tight or I need to find some extra cash fast.

Now I’m starting off with Target because what mom doesn’t love a trip to Target?! It’s like heaven when you can go by yourself. Target has so much to offer that it can be a money trap if you aren’t careful. Make a list, bring it and stick to it! The Cartwheel app has moved into the Target Ap so they aren’t separate anymore. You have access to the weekly ad, Cartwheel, and shopping all in the same place. Cartwheel can be a real money saver if you happen to find an item on sale, have a coupon, use a Cartwheel offer and use your Target RedCard! This makes me want to dance in the aisle when this happens! Whats even better is when you can also find the same item in a rebate offer from the apps listed below. It’s like a fun game and it makes me oh so happy! You have to make sure though, that you aren’t just adding and using Cartwheel offers just because it’s a deal. You still have to compare prices to make sure you are getting the best deal. Just because it’s on Cartwheel doesn’t mean it’s the cheapest option. Cartwheel doesn’t really make you any extra money but it can help you keep some money in your pocket so that’s why I added it to this list. You can find the Target app in the App store.
Ibotta is the rebate app that I use the most. You can earn gift cards for purchasing items they have offered that week. The products and money back amount will vary. They offer a lot of store options, have many healthier products on the list and include cash back at online retailers. The stores I typically find my rebates from are my local grocery store, Target, and Walmart. Those are where I shop the most. If I’m going out to a store I’ll take a peek at the rebates for that store and save the ones that are in the category of what I’m buying. For example, I need yogurt and they list $1 back on Fage so maybe I’ll buy Fage if the price is right. Now, don’t buy something you don’t need just because there’s a rebate! Also, don’t assume that the rebates at Target will be same as what is at Walmart. Walmart often has additional offerings that Target doesn’t. After you’ve gone shopping you just go back into your app, select “Redeem” and you’ll snap a picture of your receipt and select the products you bought. Sometimes, depending on the product, you may have to scan the package. Always check this app because they often have 25¢ on any item so even if you don’t buy something specific on the list you can still get 25¢ just for uploading your receipt. This app is great for making extra money for Christmas. Upload receipts all year and cash out at Christmas time for a big gift card to help you with your shopping! Check it out and watch your earning pileup!
Shopkick is by FAR my favorite! It’s actually kind of fun. I turn it into a sort of scavenger hunt when I’m shopping with my kids. So, how it works. You earn “kicks” and can eventually cash out for gift cards. There are so many ways to earn kicks. If you open the app when you enter the store you will get “walk-in kicks”, if you scan a product you will get kicks (this is where the scavenger hunt idea comes into play), if you buy something listed and submit your receipt you can get kicks and you can get kicks if you link a card and then make your purchase with that card. They have also added online shopping kicks and you can also get surprise kicks just for looking through the collections in the app. The cash out usually starts around $10. I usually can’t wait that long so I end up cashing out at $10. I know this one will be one of your favorites and a big earner for you. If you sign up using my link you (and I) will earn extra 250 kicks when you get your first walk in or scan kicks. Win, win!
Swagbucks if full of possibilities! You can earn a lot or a little depending on how much time you want to put into it. Some of the ways to earn are through taking surveys, watching videos, playing games, daily Swag Codes, internet searching, taking advantage of daily deals and many more. I have watched the videos when I was really trying to earn points around Christmas for some extra money but in general, I stick to completing the daily poll, entering the Swag Codes as I see them and I use their search engine to earn points. Sometimes they run games like SWAGO (similar to BINGO) and I’ll do that. I’ve also earned points for online shopping. The possibilities are endless. You can cash out using PayPal or for gift cards. Check it out and see what the best ways to earn for you.
Checkout 51 is a nice app because you can actually make cash. Once you hit $20 you can cash out and you’ll get a check in the mail. I don’t use this one a ton because it is a lot of name brand packaged food. I do 90% of my shopping at Aldi and they don’t carry many name brand items. I also don’t buy a ton of packaged foods anyway so that makes using this app a little more difficult for me. I still check it though. They usually have a produce offer that I can use. I will also check if I do buy a name brand item, cleaning supplies, toiletries or other household items. If you do buy a lot of name brand items you will probably make a little money more using this app but if you don’t you should still use it! You can still make small earnings and they will definitely add up over time. You might be surprised how much you can get come Christmas time! Give it a look and sign up to start earning extra money.
I’m sure you’ve heard of Ebates by now, but if you haven’t, let me introduce you to the easiest way to earn some extra cash. If you do your online shopping through the Ebates app you will earn a percentage back of your purchase. How wonderful is that?! There are a ton of retailers you can shop at and the rebate amounts vary. It’s pretty simple to earn extra money back this way. You’re already shopping online, why not make some money back, right!? My referral link is below if you are interested in earning money for online shopping.
These are just a small few of the money-making apps there are out there. I have seen others and tried others but these are the ones that I use the most. The best part is having money coming back to you when you are looking for a little extra. Do you use any of these? Comment below and let me know your thoughts or if there are any others not on the list that you love and think I should try.
